11:30am - 1pm Food Processing Kitchen
In Canada, summertime is the season for fruit - if you want to eat local produce that has not been shipped from halfway across the world, summer is the only time most fruits will grow in our harsh Northern climate. Summer warmth can also ripen fruit pretty quickly - meaning that clearance-priced or dumpstered boxes of almost-overripe fruits are pretty easy to come by, but you’d better eat them quickly. There are lots of things that you can do with large amounts of fruit to preserve them, so that you can store them before they go bad and eat them later. In this workshop you will can fruit, make fruit leather, and learn some handy tips for freezing! After the workshop, a donation of your choice gets you a handy canning zine for later reference, and a smoothie. Yum!

1 – 2pm Potluck Lunch Kitchen
If you’re it’s not too much trouble, it would be great if you could bring a dish of some sort to share with others for lunch. There’s sure to be something to eat before more workshops in the afternoon.

2:00 - 3:30pm Anarchist Soccer Kitchen, then to the park
If you don’t know what anarchist soccer is, it does indeed have some rules but the idea here is to celebrate fun, spontaneity and hard-work while doing away with the discriminatory practices that are unfortunatly a big part of organised sports (such as sexism, homophobia, machismo.) When winning and being “better” cease to be important, we tend to have a much better time of it! We’ll begin by exploring our individual relationship with sports before playing a game of anarchist soccer.

2:00 - 3:30pm Then and Now: Cultures in their own words Northcliffe Square
I have devised a workshop about the immigrant voice in English literature titled Then and Now: Cultures in their own words. The workshop would be about the way in which English literature has opened it’s doors in the past few years to immigrant/ethnic authors and the impact this has had not only on the English Canon but on society as a whole. I would of course discuss the various perspectives this kind of literature produces, how it works against oppression, exclusion and host of other issues affecting minorities as well the integrative aspects of our society. This workshop will mainly focus on the giving of a voice to the aforementioned groups in society through the written word. Therefore, I think the appropriate age group for this workshop would be adolescents and adults.

3:45 - 5:15pm Jazz Appreciation Upstairs Lounge
The primary purpose of this workshop is to communicate my passion for jazz music, and through this, to introduce certain musicians and broad categories of jazz. I will not present the music in any systematic way, relying only on the music that currently resonates with me, and therefore there will be noticeable absences of top tier jazz artists. The secondary purposes of this workshop is to promote active listening, the appreciation of vinyl records, and the potential of educating through passion and excitement rather than curriculum.

3:45 - 5:15pm One World for all of us Northcliffe Square
The natural disposition of children to love and care should always be cherished. This interactive and amusing workshop helps children to understand the importance of respecting and understanding those who are not the same as them. The workshop is designed to bring emotional insight to children so that they may understand the difference between tolerating someone and embracing them as an equal. Racism, sexism and prejudices can be found in all kinds of institutions, unfortunately the elementary school is not an exception. Through seeing exclusion and isolation due to a lack of belonging enacted in short a play, the children will come to appreciate the importance of acceptance. The aim is to help children see beyond external differences and befriend children from various backgrounds and affiliations. A secret present will also be awaiting them!

5:30 - 7:00pm Radio Free MUCS Northcliffe Square
Within 1.5 hours, participants will record a 28 minute radio show that reflects their own ideas about what radio should be. The hands-on workshop will start with a crash course in portable recording and interview techniques, and a collaborative scripting process for the show. Participants can bring their writings, favorite music, and anything that might make funny sounds. Charlieo has been producing community radio since 2001, and prepared the audio for this slideshow: http://peoplescommission.org/video.php
All ages welcome, though younger ones should be accompanied by a parent or adult childcare provider.
