Rock and Roll Poetry

Posted on March 31st, 2008 · No Comments · Workshop

Thurs 1 May :: 6:00->8:00pm
La Maison de L’amitie - 120 Duluth Est

This workshop will follow the format of a literature class discussing various forms of popular music from the last fifty years, offered in English only. The workshop will be an effort to take literary analysis out of the university classroom and out of the literary canon based around texts that are hundreds of years old. The curriculum will be based on my own choices of significant works, as well as the interests of those attending the class, and selections will range from the fifties to the present and will range in genre from rock, pop, rap, to punk music. The approach will be heavy on group discussion, and emphasize discussing social context and poetic devices used in the works discussed, and will involve listening to each work before discussion. Depending on the interest of the group, additional readings can be assigned on the theoretical aspects of literature and popular music studies.
