“Learn something new at Montreal Freeschool, where free classes are
offered on everything from composting and knitting to parenting and
creative writing.
“The grassroots community initiative began in December, and works with the
support of Montreal Urban Community Sustainment to offer adults and
children an alternative to formal education. Classes are at Montreal Urban
Community Sustainment in Notre Dame de Grâce.
“At the core of the Freeschool is an idea of individuals acting
collectively … and complementing each others’ contributions,” said Sonya
Olthof, one of the school’s organizers. “The result is a collective
network that continually strengthens itself by skill-sharing, active
listening and understanding, and appreciation of diversity.”
